Head Balance and Shoulder Stand Sequence.

Yogis! I just finished recording a 25 minute head balance, shoulder stand sequence with a long final resting pose. This is another short practice that you might want to do on your own.

I often practice in the morning and sometimes have to teach in the later afternoon or evening. I don’t usually do a full practice to prepare for these classes later in the day. I usually do a short pranayama practice, a short meditation or guided Yoga Nidra meditation, or some sun salutations and a head balance and shoulder stand sequence practice. Sometimes I’ll also do some deep stretching to prepare for any demo’s that are coming up in the class as well.
It’s really important as a teacher to do your practice. You want to be in the most Sattvic, balanced, state possible so you can be of service to your students.
The head balance and shoulder stand are two practices that are all about balance.
They are Hatha Yoga Practices. If you want to learn more about why we do these practices in yoga and how effective they are at helping to cultivate more balance then check out this article I had published a few years ago. Use the link below to go to a pdf version of the article that’s a little easier to read. It’s one of many articles on my website: garthhewittyoga.com.

I’ll do a demo of the head balance in the next video I’m going to post and then I’ll post the 25 minute practice so you can practice with me if you want.
This is a great practice to not just get ready to teach if you are not a teacher but if you only have a few minutes to practice in the day. I would recommend doing some warm-up for your shoulders and spine first if you are not already warm. Do a few rounds of sun salutations, or do a few standing warm-up poses and then try this short practice out and notice how you feel after. It doesn’t take a lot to shift your perspective. A 25 minute practice will change your day completely!
Stay safe! Stay positive! Stay healthy! Namaste.
