Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July! I chose to move here almost 15 yrs ago. Love it. Love California. Love the ocean. Love the people. No regrets.

The world right now is going through a major awakening -- and that is always messy. I think something wonderful is going to come out of the many challenges we see around us.

America is an incredible idea. The constitution. The bill of rights. Individual freedom. Democracy. What does democracy mean to you? What does it mean to you to be free and live in a free society?

This system doesn't work if we don't get involved. There will always be darkness. It is an ongoing struggle to lift ourselves up out of the mud and move towards the Light.

One of the things I love about yoga is that it has taught me that I must be an active participant in my own practice and in my own journey. No one can take the journey for you. No one can heal you. No one has the answers to your problems. You have the answers. You are in charge. You are driving the car. You have to go into the fire. You have to sit in the discomfort and breathe. You have to heal yourself. You have to take the journey.

On an individual level, and in our larger community -- every person has to show up and do their part or it doesn't work. It all falls apart. If you don't show up, you are asking someone else to show up for you. You're asking others to lift you up, instead of lifting yourself up. If we are in this together and you don't do your part, you're asking me to do more than my fair share. It's up to all of us to take responsibility, show up, and get the job done.

How could you get more involved? How could you get more involved in your community? Did you register to vote yet? Are you doing your part? We are all in this together. We are all pushing this giant ball up the hill. If you don't push with me then I have to push harder. Do your part. Do the work. Let's do this together.

There is much to celebrate and so many good things that we mustn't take for granted. Enjoy the struggle. Enjoy the journey. We are all in this together.

Happy Independence Day to all my friends, family, students and everyone celebrating today. I hope you have a fun day filled with lots of joy and laughter.
